Senate Appropriations Dems
@SenateApprops
U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee. Follow for updates from Vice Chair @PattyMurray & staff. Fighting back against a pro-billionaire, pro-corruption agenda.
I’m gearing up for a long night fighting the GOP agenda to cut funding for public broadcasting—which are especially important to our rural communities—faith-based organizations helping resettle refugees, and a whole lot more.
Republicans are forcing a vote to slash funding for public tv and radio – money that was already committed in a BIPARTISAN vote. People were hired and organizations were structured around this funding. This is NOT how you make government more efficient. I’m a NO.
We are voting to make the Republicans’ bad bill—the one which decimates public radio and TV—better and they are still refusing to do it. All they will do is rubber stamp Trump. They are so afraid of losing their jobs that they’re not doing their jobs.
Do your kids love a PBS show? If so, I’ve got bad news about that.
I just offered an amendment to stop cuts to global health programs that save lives and protect disease from spreading everywhere — including in the United States. Republicans blocked it.
I voted YES on an amendment to protect children's educational TV programs like Sesame Street from being defunded by DOGE cuts. Unfortunately, Republicans voted it down and chose to defund Big Bird.
It's past midnight—do you know where your Senator is? I'm on the Senate floor ready to vote NO on cuts to PBS, emergency alerts, and global health investments. I won't vote for DOGE cuts, because I don't take my orders from Donald Trump or Russ Vought.
It's past 10pm on a Wednesday night, and Republicans are still working to defund PBS, rural radio, lifesaving aid, and more. Democrats have been forcing amendment votes for hours, and we're still at it. I'm voting NO on these DOGE cuts, and so should every Senator.
We’re fighting this reckless rescissions package in any way we can. We’re proposing amendments and when it comes to the floor for a final vote, I’ll be voting NO.
Retreating from the world is no way to lead. In our rapidly changing world, we need to have a seat at the table so we can shape a better future for our kids. I'm in the Senate right now, urging Republicans to vote against over $8 billion in harmful cuts to foreign assistance.
So President Trump thinks supporting shows like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers is a bad use of funding but giving massive tax breaks to billionaires is a good idea? Got it.
Quick update from Washington: We are in the middle of debate on DOGE cuts to disaster response & public broadcasting. I’m here fighting for you because these cuts are bad news for Georgia.
Just weeks after voting to kick millions off their health care to help pay for billionaire tax cuts, Republicans are back on the Senate floor today working to cut MORE vital investments to make more room for their billionaire tax giveaway. The cycle of betrayal continues.
Millions get their news from NPR and PBS every day. For emergency alerts, disaster updates, the weather and other reliable news. Stations in rural areas, which rely twice as much on federal funding, could close. Defunding this basic service would put millions in the dark.
Republicans voted against funding for critical mineral supply chains, cybersecurity infrastructure, and global health and assistance programs. This rescissions package threatens the long-term safety, stability, and global leadership of our country and Republicans know it.
I believe the package of spending cuts my Republican colleagues are about to make us vote on – cuts to disaster relief, to food for starving children, to health around the world – these cuts would make Jesus weep.
🚨Did you know that RIGHT NOW Republicans are working to defund public broadcasting? Everything from shows our kids love like Sesame Street to local news to emergency alerts. I'm on the Senate floor forcing as many amendment votes as possible to save this funding.
Right now, Republicans are working to jam through a bill that defunds public broadcasting. 11 NM stations could lose funding—cutting off rural communities from receiving life-saving alerts during wildfires, floods, & other extreme weather events. These cuts put lives at risk.
Republicans just handed the ultra-rich billions in tax breaks — then turned around and voted to gut funding for public media in rural and Tribal communities. Their priorities are crystal clear…
