Year 10 received their lit mocks back today and as well as their personal and detailed self-reflection exam wrapper, I conducted a quick student voice on their way out... I've never had a stronger J+H > Macbeth before! Bring on year 11! 👑 #teamenglish

We reached the end of #Gatsby today. So many twists and turns. So many layers and facets to Gatsby that is only really uncovered in chapter 9 that the film doesn't do justice! More students preferred the novel ending to the film! WIN! 🙏✨ #reading

As Y9 are SO engrossed in The Great Gatsby, I took the opportunity to introduce them to the notion of a dramatic vehicle/symbolism: encouraging that, actually, this is not a novella of drama - rather a nod to much bigger societal issues perpetuated through patriarchal capitalism.

Chapter 5 of The #GreatGatsby complete! It is sooo exciting. Year 9 are HOOKED. Absolutely loving teaching this text. 🙏🙌 📢 Something to encourage students to realise they DO enjoy reading for pleasure - "put a heart around the most romantic quotation and think about why".
#Reading for pleasure with y7 and summarising for pleasure too. 📚 "Find your favourite quotation that made you feel something and find the methods." Then we identified feelings of the protagonist in the flowers she picked for mum - to remember a poignant moment. 💐#teamenglish

Trialling a literal talking framework... I asked students to write their suggestions for each gap on their mini whiteboard one at a time to check understanding and correct/upgrade. It was a great strategy: unpicked a few gaps! Reflection: use boxes instead of silly, tiny lines.🤦♀️
