For all you gene editing scientists out there, I highly encourage you to join this conversation. We've buried our head in the sand for too long on heritable editing, paving the way for reckless individuals to pave their own path
If you’re a gene editing scientist or comp bio/ML engineer interested in the topic of embryo editing, I’m hosting a dinner in the bay area soon with a few folks. I think the time is right for the defining company in the US to be built in this area, approaching it in a…
Interesting: the big swings in biotech funding have largely been driven by generalist funds -- many leaned heavily into biotech in 2018–2019 and now seem to be pulling back. Specialist funds have continued deploying at a steadier pace.
Partnerships are becoming more important than ever for biotech startups. @SciFounders is hosting a free, open workshop on how to land partnerships and how to make them work. 350+ sign-ups, but there’s still time to join.
The crummiest part of venture capital is having to tell people no. We at @SciFounders often need to make tough decisions. I went back to our notes on the last ~500 startups we met and could boil down our feedback to 7 main factors that I think are critical.
📅 Save the date for our Biotech Partnerships workshop: June 11 | 9–10 AM PT Partnerships are more important than ever in today’s financial environment. That’s why our next session will focus on how to make them work. Lucas Harrington has built partnerships at Mammoth that have…
Check out what we're working on at Olio Labs! 70% of patients taking GLP-1's (like Ozempic) are women, but they experience >2x side effect rates than men. What is driving this difference? We combine human EMR data, mouse & rat behavior, and scRNAseq to figure it out:
~450 applications received for SciFounder Fellowship! Going to take us some time to review -- sorry if delays in getting back. You can still apply late if you want/need on our website (up to $1MM for health technology ideas).
Partnerships have been crucial to Mammoth's success, delivering $200M+ in upfront payments. I wrote up the guide I wish someone had given me when I started out. Hope this helps others close the right deal! 🧵 and link:

Pluripotent stem-cell-derived therapies in clinical trials by year, colored by product type. Ocular and CNS lead due to low cell input requirements and immune privilege.
I've raised about $100 million for biotech projects at this point - fundraising can be really hard. I wrote up thoughts for newer biotech founders trying to raise in the new year (longer post at end) 🧵

We are still very excited to invest in platform companies!! I talked to 300+ bio founders in the last few months, and many think that only asset-focused companies are getting funded now. If there is a clear path to a solid pipeline there is a ton of value in platforms that are…
Something fascinating - surgeries are often hospitals' biggest money-makers, and it makes sense why. For so many major diseases, surgery is the best shot at a cure. Every surgical breakthrough leads to greater longevity.
