UND nears roster completion by adding Merrimack alternate captain Tyler Young grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hoc…
Here's a little more on UND's newest roster addition, Merrimack transfer Tyler Young: grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hoc…
UND fills one of its last roster spots by getting Tyler Young from Merrimack. Young had 6 goals and 10 points in 29 games last season. His dad is longtime NHLer Scott Young.
It's been an interesting dynamic. The first-round picks are often great players and Hobey winners, but two of the last three NCAA champions (QU, WMU) were extremely dominant teams without a top-80 pick on the roster.
I think people overrate first round pics in college. Yes they are really good, but they are usually pretty raw and only play a season, 2 seasons max.
There are also a lot of mid-round/undrafted types coming to NCAA who are going to be dynamite college hockey players. The result is that NCAA hockey is going to be very deep and very difficult to predict. As I look at potential line charts, I see a lot of excellent teams.
NHL first-round picks (+ projected) to head from CHL to NCAA in Year 1: Lindstrom (CBJ) to Michigan State Martone (PHI) to Michigan State Smith (CBJ) to Penn State Reschny (CGY) to North Dakota McKenna (2026) to Penn State Verhoeff (2026) to North Dakota
This is something to watch in the NCHC, too. Some NCHC coaches have concerns about the longer league playoff and potential for long break before NCAAs. NCHC has obviously done very well in NCAAs, but the league playoffs are changing with all home sites.
A @B1GHockey team has had at least 18 days between games entering the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons after losing in the B1G quarterfinals. Here's how the conference is looking to eliminate that possibility. badgerextra.com/sports/hockey/…
With some D-III, USports and ACHA commitments coming to light, the number of players in the transfer portal is dwindling. Here's what it's looking like: grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hoc…

We should get confirmation later today, but there is word that Porter Martone — taken 6th overall by the Flyers — will be going to Michigan State
