SUPPORTEDstudy
@SUPPORTEDstudy
@NIHRresearch funded study exploring the experiences & training needs of homecare workers supporting people with advanced illness in the last months of life.
We have been very quiet recently, but excited to report that we have been meeting with colleagues in Hull, Sheffield, London & Australia to discuss research findings and developing training resources to support homecare workers at end-of-life. #socialcare

New publication from our Supported study of homecare at end of life presents an analysis of end-of-life care policy, highlighting the many gaps in respect of the critical role of homecare medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
Our paper about the experiences of #homecare workers supporting people at end of life is available now as a pre-print. Thanks to everyone who took part and shared their experiences - shorturl.at/tHT7p and to all of the research team #socialcare

After many Tweets requesting research participants, and many interviews later we are now sharing research findings from our study of homecare at end-of-life. First up - our colleague Cat Forward will be presenting findings on May 7th - do join ⬇️
Looking forward to our upcoming Homecare Research Forum on 7th May, 2-4pm. You can now register for your FREE place here: eventbrite.com/e/home-care-re… Talks will focus on the 'SUPPORTED' study (end of life care), and forging relationships between homecare workers and researchers.

Really important resources - please share widely. HCWs recruited overseas can be at significant risk of exploitation
(1/4) Great to see evidence of innovation designed to support overseas care workers. Individuals who have come to the UK via the Health & Care Worker Visa scheme are at risk of exploitation by unscrupulous employers: homecarewg.org/modernslavery #socialcare #careworkervisa #carework
New paper from our SUPPORTED study of homecare at end-of-life. Findings from a rapid review of homecare @ EOL. Key findings - HCWs provide support in complex situations & emotionally demanding situations, yet can be isolated and under-valued within the wider care team #socialcare

Homecare workers - do you work 'in a bubble' & with only a 'breadcrumb trail' of notes and information to connect you to colleagues? See below for information about @RachelKelso12's work to bring together homecare workers for support & to get a place at the policy table ⬇️
If you know any care workers, please tell them about Homecare Workers' Group. On sign up, you can select what type of care work you do - current focus is obvs domiciliary, but welcome to all. Can also join if you're no longer a care worker but might reconsider if things improve.
So good to hear about the important work you are doing to bring the voice of homecare workers to debates on social care delivery and policy ☺️
Join this care worker on an unexpected trip... to parliament! @unisontheunion - thanks so much for inviting me along to the parliamentary briefing about proposals for a National Care Service. #homecare #domiciliarycare #socialcare #communitycare #communitycareworker #carework

This is a powerful demonstration of the importance #homecare. We are researching experiences of homecare workers at end of life (& this really resonates!). If you are a homecare worker providing EOL care in #Hull #Bradford or #Bromley do get in touch at [email protected]
Come with me to see what it's like being a homecare worker on a Saturday morning shift. Would love to give more insight into the many varied things we get up to alongside those who draw on support, but here are the rushed in between bits I can show, which are just as important
Kicking off fortnightly online meet-ups from next Friday, welcome to care workers throughout the country. Join the website or Facebook Group (both free) to access: homecarewg.org/groups #careworker #socialcare #homecare #carework
Thanks for sharing @RachelKelso12 This shows so well the challenges and pressures of the homecare role, and highlights the value of the care and support provided (practical, social and emotional).

Important piece about rising levels of exploitation & abuse of care workers #modernslavery
Our Chief Executive, @drjanetownson, was quoted in the @guardian condemning the exploitation of workers and the abuse of the skilled visa route. Read in full below⤵️ theguardian.com/society/2024/j…
On Wed 7 Feb, BBC East Mids will be filming members of Homecare Workers' Group meeting up as part of a report about why the group has been set up. Do you know any dom. care workers near #Nottingham who would like to join? More the merrier!
For my dissertation I'm speaking to care workers to understand how they perceive the work they do, how they think others perceive it, and what they make of the current focus on professionalising the workforce. Do you know any potential participants? Please do get in touch / share
