"Over the past six months, as the Trump Admin has cut American diplomatic programs around the world, China has stepped in, securing critical minerals, attracting scientific talent and ramping up anti-American propaganda," said @SenatorShaheen. More about @SFRCdems' new report ⬇️
"Congress has a responsibility to ensure aid is delivered responsibly, not in ways that deepen suffering or undermine international norms." -@SenatorShaheen on @StateDept's decision to approve $30 million for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation foreign.senate.gov/press/dem/rele…
At today's nominations hearing @SenatorShaheen underscored the importance of strengthening U.S. consular services, reversing short-sighted staffing cuts at @StateDept and advancing U.S. interests at diplomatic posts critical to @NATO's future. Watch her opening remarks ⬇️
"The Trump Admin's decision to withdraw the U.S. from @UNESCO is short-sighted and a win for China," said @SenatorShaheen. "Not having a seat at the table will come at a cost to American companies and the American people." Read her full statement ⤵️ foreign.senate.gov/press/dem/rele…
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue to commit crimes against humanity in Sudan. The RSF and its enablers must be held accountable for their malicious attacks. There is no military solution to this war. The war in Sudan must end now.
Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have killed more than 200 civilians in a series of attacks on villages in North Kordofan state, the National Umma Party and a prominent Sudanese rights group said on Monday. sudantribune.com/article302874/
"What we have seen since Donald Trump took office is a series of decisions that actually undermine our ability to compete with China and to stem the threat that it poses, not just to the West, but to democracies everywhere." -@SenatorShaheen at last week's @CSIS fireside chat
24 million people in Sudan are acutely food insecure. Yet as Sudan experiences the world's worst humanitarian crisis, the Trump Admin plans to destroy millions of dollars worth of food assistance—which is already paid for. This a cruel and unnecessary waste of taxpayer dollars.
The Trump administration has promised to distribute food aid before it spoils. But 500 tons of emergency food in a U.S. warehouse are about to expire and are slated for the incinerator, @hanamkiros reports. theatlantic.com/health/archive…

"No business would do what this Admin has done to the federal government," @SenatorShaheen told Dr. John Hamre at this week's CSIS event. "We can always make public agencies more effective, but you don't do that by just coming in and arbitrarily cutting people and programs."
This week, @SenatorShaheen released a new @SFRCdems report, detailing how the Trump Admin’s first six months have significantly undermined America's ability to compete with China—by cutting our diplomatic infrastructure and retreating on the global stage. Watch to learn more ⬇️
There is bipartisan consensus that the biggest threat to the US is China, and the Trump Admin claims they agree. My new report from @SFRCdems outlines exactly how this Admin has rolled back our ability to compete with China—from reckless tariff wars to foreign assistance cuts.
"Make no mistake, these cuts will make America less safe and less prosperous," said @SenatorShaheen. Read her full statement on the Senate's passage of the Republican recissions package ⬇️ foreign.senate.gov/press/dem/rele…
There’s bipartisan consensus around the threat that China poses to American security and prosperity. Under President Trump, America is retreating from the global stage and China is gaining ground. Is it vital that we reverse course.
As I told @BretBaier on @SpecialReport, the Trump administration’s lack of strategy and chaotic cuts are giving China the advantage. But it's not too late to reverse course, and that starts with rebuilding our soft power—as I laid out in my new minority report with @SFRCdems.
The recent escalation of violence in Syria "could undermine and endanger Syria's stability and derail progress made by @USAMBTurkiye," said @SenatorShaheen. Read her full statement ⬇️

At @CSIS, @SenatorShaheen discussed @SFRCdems' new report, which lays out how the Trump Admin's policy decisions over the past six months—from reckless trade wars to dramatic cuts to foreign assistance—have weakened America in our competition with China.
At today's hearing, @SenatorShaheen issued a sharp rebuke and questioned Michael Rigas on @StateDept's decision to cruelly destroy emergency food aid—enough for 1.5 million children and already paid for—instead of distributing it to starving children as intended. ⬇️
