It's been a crazy week on social media, so hello to all my new followers! I'm a Sun scientist researching solar flares, and value the importance of communicating the facts (and combating the fiction) of that science to the world. My first book, The Sun, was published last year ☀️

Spot the difference – this small filament erupted overnight, expected to impact Earth and trigger a minor geomagnetic storm this weekend. #spaceweather

‘My eyes hurt’ was googled 5x more frequently during the week of last year’s solar eclipse!

I’m having some problems with my laptop, does anybody know how to fix?

The Sun has produced a number of decent-sized (and very photogenic) coronal mass ejections over the past few days, but unfortunately – none of them are Earth-directed!
A call to my X connections: I am looking for further opportunities to promote my next astronomy book via social media collaborations, in-person events (UK or US-based), podcasts, etc. If anyone wants to collaborate in any of these areas — please reach out!
After a week of a #SolarFlare drought, a newly-visible region on the Sun produced three solar moderate-sized solar flares last night! (Nothing super exciting just yet, but we’ll wait to see if more is to come) ☀️
The Sun has been sleepy lately. When will we see the next moderate (M-class) or large (X-class) solar flare?
The last X-flare was on June 19. We have only had 4 M-flares since then.
This book is going to be an absolute gem!
