On July 17, 1846, Nicholai Miklouho-Maclay was born — an outstanding Russian scientist, ethnographer, anthropologist, and traveler. He visited Singapore as well. He arrived here on an English steamer in 1875. He wrote his impressions about the island in his diaries.
