Interrupting my retreat to tell you that ๐๐ช๐ญ ๐๐ฒ๐ช๐ผ๐น๐ธ๐ป๐ช ๐๐ธ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ผ is landing in bookshops this summer (July 6th). Spent a long time running away from these poems. Glad they caught up with me, and that I can finally share them. Pre-order here: penguin.co.uk/books/453931/bโฆ

Funding water, food and shelter is how our people have been able to withstand this genocide for so long. None of that has changed. Today is not different from yesterday. We invite those who were just born this morning to immediately get to work.
Nothing like a compellingly unhinged character in a Toni Morrison novel. This passage from Jazz is one I often return to.
Iโm reading โJazzโ by Toni Morrison for the first time. And I feel like more people should rave about this book, too. The characters are insane and the plot is truly diabolical. Like omg. ๐ฉ Chaos with beautiful prose. ๐ญ
i hope the babies i was born wit at the hospital doing good
โis this a joke to youโ unfortunately everything is a little bit of a joke to me
Louis Armstrong and his wife Lucille at the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza (1961)
Today was one of those days. Top-tier feeling and a reminder of how boundless life is.
I love when I meet someone I had no idea existed. It really remind me that God has created so many people and the idea that youโll never find love, have friends, or connections is beyond crazy. There are SO many people out there.
Deepest respect for the people in my life whoโve been tested with power after lacking it for so long, who refuse to wield it over others when they so easily could. Itโs all hypotheticals until youโre actually tested.
itโs easy to be a nice, decent person to people of your own class & circles. itโs easy to be a pious, disciplined person at a monastic retreat. but who are you when tested, when angry, when you have smth over other people? what good do you do with the little power God gives you?
Wishing a very happy paperback publication day to Momtaza Mehri (@RuffneckRefugee) for Bad Diaspora Poems, the brilliant winner of the 2023 Forward Prize for Best First Collection๐ฅณ๐ uk.bookshop.org/p/books/bad-diโฆ!!
Stumbled across the extraordinary tomb of Rudolf Nureyev yesterday, in the Russian cemetery in Sainte-Geneviรจve-des-Bois. The kilim is actually an intricate mosaic.
Saying โI donโt knowโ feels so good. Sometimes you really just donโt know
The paperback edition of Bad Diaspora Poems is coming out this week โจ Itโs a pick here for best paperbacks of the month so donโt just take my word for it. theguardian.com/books/ng-interโฆ
