Top thoroughbred owner/breeder Allen Paulson died 25 years ago today in 2000. Bred the great Cigar and his red, white and blue AP silks worn by multiple stakes winners in last two decades of 20th century.

The idiocy of many posts regarding impending tax changes for gambling winnings/losses is quite staggering. Many people seem to believe that net gambling losses can be written off on tax returns. Maybe naive but believe today’s change will be “quickly” revised to original state.

Lots of news on @smarkets expanding into US in prediction market/betting exchange. Currently licensed in Colorado and Indiana - wonder what happened to plans to expand into Iowa? Business of Betting podcast hosted by @jasontrost always interesting listen.

40 years ago today - Wednesday, June 26, 1985 - opening of Canterbury Downs (now @CanterburyPark) in Shakopee, MN. Runners on opening card from @nmrhof stables of Bill Mott, Carl Nafzger, & Jack Van Berg (3 wins on day) with Mike Smith & Ron Hansen (3 wins) among jockey colony.

Hope we get to see Italian 1000 Guineas-Oaks winning filly Klaynn (4th in Italian Derby) in one of the big events in Europe in the fall. Sold in past week to Teruya Yoshida, trained by Endo Botti and Cristiana Brivio and ridden today by Cristian Demuro.

Day after end of Royal Ascot gives us stories in @RacingPost that you will never see in US - one on Dress Code controversies at a racetrack and the other on a trainer criticizing jockey Flavien Prat.
