Geoff and Margaret
@RetirementTales
Retired teachers. Responded to The Call in 2022. Purveyors of Hope. An allegory. Everything you imagine us to be.
If Margaret were in charge, she would ban "Back to School!" TV adverts and shop displays. "It's not what teachers and children want to see in July!" she says. "Nor in August."
There are just three hours left to vote in our poll of theme tunes to comedy dramas from the 1980s. It's currently very close between the themes from Auf Wiedersehen, Pet ("That's Livin Alright") and Bread...
It's the start of our new summer holiday feature - "Singalong with Ed". 🎸 First up, Margaret has picked four of her favourite British comedy dramas from the 1980s.📺 Vote for your favourite and our good friend Ed @MrEFinch will sing the theme tune of the winning show for us!

Every year, around this time, we like to remind you of the classic assembly hymn "One More Step Along the World I Go". There are other assembly songs about moving on, but none has resonated quite like this 1971 gem, from folk singer Sydney Carter.

Kiss cams and concerts were very different in the 1980s.

If any heads or teachers are needing a last minute addition to the end of year assembly, here's "Leavers' Song" from Allan Ahlberg's "Heard it in the Playground". Goodbye, old school...

To all those school staff and educators who have reached the end of term: We wish you a relaxing, replenishing and joyful summer! To all those who have a little longer to go: We send our love and best wishes! Thank you all. What a difference you make. ❤️
