Rep. John Larson
@RepJohnLarson
Member of Congress representing the First District of Connecticut.
Elon Musk called Social Security a Ponzi scheme and Donald Trump called it a scam. Make no mistake - they want to slash & privatize Americans' benefits. My resolution compels them to provide answers, but Republicans are trying to stop it from even coming to a vote in the House.
The cuts Republicans passed tonight will rip away access to family planning from 48 million women and eviscerate aid for 40 million kids in schools worldwide. Rubberstamping dangerous 'DOGE' cuts to justify tax breaks for billionaires is beyond unconscionable. I voted NO.

While you were sleeping, the Senate voted to defund PBS and NPR. These cuts will shutter local stations and harm beloved kids' programs like Sesame Street. There's still time to stop this in the House. I will not vote to attack public broadcasting at the President's command.

I met with @AFGENational Council 220 as we continue to work together to defend the dignity of work. Americans deserve assistance from real workers - not some AI algorithm - when they need help from their government. We’ll never stop fighting to protect YOUR hard-earned benefits!

The Trump Administration wants to starve Social Security from within so they can slash & privatize it. Offices are closing and wait times are rising. I'm fighting to protect your EARNED BENEFITS from these attacks and enhance Social Security, not cut it! npr.org/2025/07/22/nx-…
Summer EBT benefits are now available. 🍎 I worked with my colleagues to create this program so families can afford nutritious meals for their kids while school is out of session. To learn more and enroll, call 1-844-503-6871 or read more below. ⬇️ portal.ct.gov/dss/snap/summe…
It was great to help launch the new restoration campaign at Hartford Public Library. I was proud to see federal funding support the opening of the Albany Avenue and Barbour St. branches & am working to deliver new investments to expand library services throughout the community.

I joined @GovNedLamont, Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and @RiverfrontRecap in Hartford today to announce new funding for our parks. Along with funds we secured in Congress, these grants will help connect the Hartford and Windsor Riverwalks & support new recreational opportunities.

President Trump's union-busting order targeting more than one million workers is an attack on the right to organize for everyone. Before I left Washington for the week, I signed a petition to force a vote on our bill restoring collective bargaining rights for federal workers.
Last night, I voted against a bill tying military funding to abortion restrictions and a 'license to discriminate' against same sex couples. I will always stand with our troops and anyone who answers the call to serve. They deserve better than these divisive culture war attacks.

This week, we marked five years since my friend and colleague, Rep. John Lewis, passed away. There was no one who cared more deeply or worked harder to advance equality for all. Together, we all must work to carry his legacy forward with action and some good trouble.
The GOP just voted to put Big Bird and Elmo on unemployment. Why? Because Republicans won't dare question the President's petty attacks on PBS & NPR. In America, we stand up for a free press - even when we disagree. We won't let this attempt to purge public media intimidate us.

We spoke out when the Trump Administration canceled a program protecting veterans at risk of foreclosure, leaving thousands with nowhere to turn. Glad to see Congress come together on a bipartisan solution to help these veterans stay in their homes. npr.org/2025/07/16/g-s…
We worked with both the Trump and Biden Administrations to launch the #988lifeline and new mental health services for our youth. It is shameful to see this administration back away from that commitment and end the LGBTQ+ youth suicide hotline. It must be restored!
NEW: The Trump administration officially terminates the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ Youth Specialized Services program, which gave callers under age 25 the option to speak with LGBTQ-trained counselors. nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-ne…
It has been 5 years since my friend and @WaysMeansCmte seat mate, Rep. John Lewis, passed away. I was proud to work with him to pass the Affordable Care Act & hold a House sit-in to demand action on gun violence. Let’s all honor his memory by getting into some more #GoodTrouble.

Today marks three years of the #988Lifeline. I was proud to support legislation to establish this critical resource and will keep fighting to expand access to mental health care for everyone. If you are experiencing a crisis, dial 9-8-8 for support. You are not alone.
I joined the National Academy of Social Insurance and advocates from across the country to celebrate 90 years of #SocialSecurity and call for action. Now is the time to protect Social Security and enhance benefits so no one can retire into poverty after a lifetime of hard work.

The Trump tariffs are raising prices at the grocery store, online and everywhere you shop. On top of that, his 'big bill' pushes health care out of reach for millions & hikes home energy bills. Democrats want to lower household costs, not raise them so billionaires get a tax cut.
Inflation rose last month to its highest level since February as Trump's tariffs are pushing up the cost of a range of goods. apnews.com/article/inflat…
90 million Americans were recently sent an email falsely claiming "no tax on Social Security" is now law. While some seniors may see a benefit, many won't get a tax cut at all. The President's bill actually moves up insolvency! @SocialSecurity needs to correct the record NOW.

Congratulations to Jeff Flaks and the 45,000 @HartfordHealthC employees for winning this well-deserved 'Stanley Cup!' Thank you for your continued focus on high-quality care for the Greater Hartford area and our entire state. courant.com/2025/07/15/ct-…
