Wow this is fascinating: • Big Sky is going from 8 to 9 conference games • They’ll be at 13 football teams after Sac State leaves and SUU/UTU join • The way to reconcile an odd number of teams with an odd number of games is the newcomers get one less game.
UTU or SUU will play only 8 as part of their entry agreement. This is more an issue of adding a 12th game to the FCS season. Without adding an extra BSC game, getting a 4th noncon each year is difficult for BSC teams.
Just saying, if the American’s eventual goal was to lure Air Force and corner the market on FBS service academies, shifting their branding to go heavy on the American and adding a patriotic mascot would be exactly the play.

Jensen Huang’s net worth surpassed $150B on Nvidia’s recent rally. If Memphis’ stunt works, should he simply buy a spot in the SEC for Oregon State?

Teams like Oregon State and UConn that certainly want a P4 invite and are in good position to get one in the next decade might be particularly negatively affected by Memphis’ quarter billion dollar offer. Even if the Big 12 turns them down, the get in price just went way up.
Memphis can be in a P5 conference tomorrow if they simply offer the $200M to the Pac-12 instead.

The American has dropped “Athletic” from its name and is officially simply the “American Conference” now. They’ve added a mascot, too.

For those concerned about runaway roster costs in CFB, here’s what competitive balance looks like in a different league where one team literally spent a billion dollars.

We’re heartbroken by the passing of Corey Adams. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
NFLPA Executive Director Lloyd Howell Jr., who drew a $3.6M salary from the Association, has resigned after expensing what can only be assumed to be an ungodly amount of lemon pepper wings at Magic City.
