Sound design is integral to supernatural horror. "Silence" & isolated/amplified atmospheric sounds (i.e. doors, wind, footsteps, objects) create tension; even more so than visuals. When mixed w/ shadows, low lighting, & unseen entities? Now you got yourself a spooky movie ๐ป๐๏ธ
