#TBT to a 2010 paper by Dr Burbridge & #medstudent A Jack on Canadian #medschool use of #radiology in teaching #anatomy. 13/14 schools responded. 69% rated #Cadaver dissection as most important. #Xray, #CT, or #MRI were used in 92% of schools with variable levels of use. #meded


Drs Fladeland & Karjala were part of 7-site study showing individual findings (CT honeycombing or traction bronchiectasis extent & PA size as neg predictors w subpleural sparing as protective) as more predictive of survival than defined radiology patterns in fibrotic #ILD. #lung

Our #research day the award for best #radresident research project was shared. Congrats to Dr Myles Mabee (with D Leswick) for being one of the winners based on his project regarding a high noon #XRAY projection for penetrating foreign bodies. Hon Mention given to Wara Lounsbury

At #research day, Michaela Perlau (with D Leswick) won the Best Practice Quality Improvement (PQI) award for work on reports & recommendations for ultrasound of #gallbladder polyps. Honorable mentions were given to Neel Mistry and Max Hamilton

At #research day, the award for Best Medical Student Project was won by Hasan Jamil (with D Leswick & K Hanneman) for work on #radiologist knowledge of radiology's impact on the environment. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Fatima Awan and Memoon Quershi. #ClimateCrisis

A problem with humpbacks. New paper by S Abidi, M Shepel, H Obaid & colleagues evaluated 84 cases of #scaphoid #s with long term follow-up. #Humpback deformity showed significant assoc w nonunion (p=0.001) and nonsignificant assoc with #AVN (p=0.067). #radiology #FOAMrad #MSKrad

How does #AI compare with traditional models for identifying future risk of #lungcancer in individuals? A review & metanalysis by Dr Adams & #medstudent S Leonard & M Patel found better performance of AI than traditional models, especially when including imaging data. #radiology



Our research day is on June 13th. What could go wrong on a Friday the 13th? Residents, medical students or local researchers who have done research in our department are invited to submit abstracts for presentation by Friday April 23, 2025. #research #radiology #radres
