RMI Mission in Geneva is proud to celebrate #WorldEnvironnmentDay! Now more than ever, we need more ambitious climate action and recommit to keeping global warming under the 1.5°C target.

On 2 July at #HRC59, @Jabkanira joined the panel “Fossil Fuel-Based Economy & Human Rights” hosted by @ciel_tweets. Sharing Marshall Islands' experience as a SIDS, H.E. urged stronger action to phase out fossil fuels, protect communities, and uphold climate justice.

On 2 July 2025, @Jabkanira participated in #HRC59 side event “The Human Rights Imperative of Phasing Out Fossil Fuels” hosted by @SRclimatechange & @EU_UNGeneva. RMI urged urgent defossilisation, backed the Fossil Fuel Treaty & called for global justice through climate action.



During #HRC59, RMI joined the panel at a side event led by @HRNow_Intl, «80 Years of Nuclear Displacement», alongside RMI's Minister of Culture and internal affairs, Jesse Garper Jr. RMI highlighted the nuclear legacy and its work with the UN for justice and reparations.

During #HRC59 panel on the adverse impact of climate change on human rights, RMI delivered a statement on behalf of a group of Pacific Island States, calling on states to transition away from fossil fuels and deliver NDCs with ambitious, economy-wide, emission reduction targets.



Today, RMI delivered a national statement during #HRC59 ID with @SRclimatechange, emphasising the disproportionate effects of climate change on countries who have least contributed to it. RMI welcomes the report’ urgent call for defossilization and more ambitious climate action.



On 25 June 2025, RMI delivered a statement during the #HRC59 ID with the SR on the independence of judges and lawyers. RMI shared their experience in integrating a customary approach in adressing certain legal issues, in particular with regards to land management rights.



H.E. @Jabkanira delivered a national statement during #HRC59 ID with the Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls. She stressed the gendered impacts of climate change and called for culturally sensitive, gender-responsive care systems.



Today, @Jabkanira took part in the inaugural opening of the UNOG photo exhibition “Not a Women’s Job?: Women Leading in Multilateralism and Diplomacy”, celebrating and highlighting the vital role of women in diplomacy and multilateral leadership. #HRC59




H.E @Jabkanira delivered a RMI national statement during #HRC59 ID with SR on IDPs @PaulaGaviriaB following her country visit to the Marshall Islands. She insisted on the ramifications of climate change and nuclear legacy on IDPs and reiterated RMI’s support to her mandate.

DPR Lanwi delivered a national statement during the #HRC59 Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Health @drtlaleng, where he reiterated the need to preserve the safety and well-being of all health and care workers.

“Eliminate landmines once and for all”: Today, during an intersessional meeting at the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in Geneva, H.E @Jabkanira reaffirmed the Marshall Islands’ commitment to disarmament, and called on global action to protect future generations from landmines
