Members of the public joins first Open Day for 2025 at Karoo Site The SARAO Public Open Day is aimed at allowing members of the public to visit the MeerKAT radio telescope and other instruments that are hosted on the Karoo site. sarao.ac.za/news/members-o…
A new study led by our PhD candidate Keegan Trehaeven reveals a peculiar radio mini-halo in Abell 3558 galaxy cluster. Using MeerKAT, uGMRT & ASKAP, the team found extended diffuse emissions, ridge-like features, and signs of gas sloshing. doi.org/10.48550/arxiv… #RATT

You are looking at the first ever image of another multi-planet solar system.
Today's spotlight is on our PhD student Victoria, who also represented us at the @SKAO general science meeting 😎 Her research focuses on detecting transient radio sources with MeerKAT. She's also passionate about astronomy outreach in Mozambique 🇲🇿 Congratulations Victoria! 🎉
Our PhD student Keegan Trehaeven shone at the Cosmology on Savanna & the SKAO general science 2025! He unveiled a peculiar Abell 3558 mini‑halo & presented the first GHz spectral index map of the Abell 3562–SC 1327 radio bridge in the Shapley Supercluster. Congrats Keegan 🎉

Today's spotlight is on our PhD student, Toivo, who shone at #Cosmology on Safari with his mini‑halo talk using #MeerKAT data! He found a strong link between 1.4 GHz radio power & X‑ray luminosity & hints that cluster mass shapes mini‑halo formation. Congrats, Toivo 🎉
In case you missed it, catch this talk on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/live/NTkHGPFxO… A hearty congratulations to Dr Charles for bringing cutting-edge cosmology back to his hometown 🎉🎉 #RadioAstronomy #cosmology #ska #HERA
The goal is to find independent ways to measure cosmic parameters and break the current deadlock between competing cosmological models - with radio telescope arrays like HERA leading this effort.

While this model successfully describes our universe's composition, its limitations allow competing theories to persist. Dr Charles shared recent HERA results about early universe evolution and outlined the experimental and theoretical challenges ahead.

Yesterday, Dr Ntsikelelo Charles gave a captivating talk titled 'The Era of Precision Cosmology.' He discussed new experiments, particularly regarding the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA), that aim to provide independent measurements to address gaps in the ΛCDM model.
