28 Sep 1624, Sat, #OTD Władysław Vasa visited the Spanish camp near Breda with Ambrogio Spinola. It’s quite different than the Polish one, nice and quiet, well supplied with food, 8 breweries. Upon the news of Maurits van Oranje preparing an attack, Spinola said: „Let him come!”.

This year marks 1000 years since the coronation of Bolesław I the Brave (1025), the first King of Poland. A millennium later, we revisit the Piast dynasty, founders of the Polish state. Here's a thread on the rulers who turned a tribal land into a kingdom. 🧵1/

30 Dec 1624, #OTD Władysław Vasa went to see the Veil of Veronica. Canons of St Peter argued that only them have this privilege, but the Pope argumented that Crown Prince earned it with his victories over pagans and to make things formal he made him one of the Canons of St Peter.

Something for #StuartSaturday people. It looks like the impoverished winged hussar Bogdan went from rags to riches, Jakub is an exorcist, Zofia went far left, Jan Paweł accepted his daughter’s Aniela relationship with the apprentice blacksmith Maciej. Stanisław’s like his father.
Ich twarze mówią więcej niż 1670 słów ❤️ Prace na planie 2. sezonu zakończone! Premiera w 2025.

17 Nov 1647, brothers Marek & Jan Sobieskis left #Vlissingen and took a walk to #Middelburg on a nice brick road between trees. There stopped at a guesthouse by the channel where boats to #Rotterdam leave. The landlord’s been to India few times and let them try some Indian bread.

12 Nov 1624, #OTD Władysław Vasa crossed St Gotthard Pass. Luckily you can hire peasants who carry you through the mountains on a chair. The one who carried the crown prince was also nice to bring a gift of a rock crystal. Accommodation and poor supper at the Urania Inn in Faido.

6 Nov 1677, #OTD attempted regicide of John III Sobieski in #Gdańsk. Luckily a page boy took the first sip of poisoned morning coffee. Danish sources revealed the city councilors bragged about „replacing” the King. It was the satanist gang of Catherine Monvoisin who took the job.

20 Oct 1624, #OTD Władysław Vasa had dinner in #Habay. Servants of Infanta are escorting him out the Spanish Netherlands. Comte de Noyelles raised a toast for the King of Spain, to which Crown Prince raised a cup for Mr Olivares, who was flabbergasted and so dropped on his knees.

13 Oct 1624, #OTD on the eve of Władysław Vasa leaving #Brussels, his entourage visited Ladies of the Court. No matter if they were young, old, pretty or ugly, they had to kiss them all. Crown Prince invited by Duc de Croÿ went to the dances and there he left very content Ladies.

20 Jun 1624, #OTD Stanisław Koniecpolski has done a bloody reprisal on Kantymir „Bloody Sword” Murza at the Battle of Martynów. Not only his soldiers were experienced and motivated, Poland was blessed with an intervention of Archangel Michael. Tatars got a beating of the century.

15 Jun 1624, #OTD Władysław Vasa and his drunken uncle Karl Habsburg are on their way to Vienna. In #Bruntál they were warned that Lisowski’s Men are planning to kidnap them. Fact is Imperator owes them money and King Sigismund III of Poland with the parliament outlawed them all.
