Money didn't buy happiness... Till we became better at buying.
Something I didn’t see coming was how education, instead of helping people achieve things, would only make them more sophisticated at making excuses for why they haven’t.
Stop asking why nobody writes books to tell you how they achieved things & give you free/cheap advice. There’s no point & it makes you a target 🙏🏽🙏🏽
People scoffing at this are missing the next wave. The true value of AI to Nigeria isn't in content writing or graphic design, it's in the operational layer: Using scant resources to achieve outsized outcomes within the shortest possible time in areas like agriculture.
18 months in, and we’re already seeing results. This is just our second planting season, yet our maize yield is already surpassing Nigeria’s national average. Our ambition for Duns Field Farms is to become a true demonstration farm, where best-in-class technologies are deployed…
Fight like you know you're going to bed with the loser.
“We’re in a conflict, we don’t hate each other. Let’s not say things we can’t come back from”. Phew.
Check out Generation Toolbelt. Western youth avoiding college to go to trade school to avoid student loan debt. As per Nigeria, use AI to shorten your skilled trades learning period to 3 months or less, help with project and biz management , you'll clean out.
See these trade schools? Untapped gold mine A 20-year-old boy who can weld, install a water valve or fix a carburettor is guaranteed never to be unemployed, be in the middle class and is on track to become a small business millionaire by age 40 AI can't fix a broken toilet. My…
This isn't uniquely Nigerian. See the "Dunning-Kruger Effect".
The problem with 🇳🇬 social media is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the ignorant ones are full of confidence
Watching this GMO debate. I don't know anything about the topic. However, the pro-GMO people need to step up their arguments from "trust me, bro" and "everybody does it". Thank you. An interested and unbiased viewer. 🍿
There’s immense value in a child simply watching their father move through the world. My father and I weren’t close, but he refused to remarry, even though he was separated. He always said "I made a commitment". That made me understand that vows matter.
Where are the Fathers? We all can do better. We all should do better. The world has changed. We now know better. The dynamics of parenting today are so different. And beyond providing money, which many mothers also do these days, fathers need to be more present and emotionally…
Retention rates for Nigerians working for Western companies increased by over 400% when they worked from our BPO facilities alongside other remote professionals.
Fight against remote work early on in your career. Your career development is better with bosses and team members you can learn from directly and indirectly in an office environment through observation, mentoring, etc. Leave remote work for when you've earned your stripes.
Probably???
Anyone that says 24 hours light wouldn't add to the productivity and life quality of the average nigerian is probably lying
💯
When Nigeria becomes more stable and safe with decent public services, the incredible amount of skill and capital that will return, eh! We will struggle to contain it. Naija people no too gbadu oyibo land like that; na situation dey pursue us commot.
On the weekend's argument about "privilege".
I regret to inform you that the entry fee for having "high agency" is you take responsibility for ~everything
Exactly my view on this subject If you did not come from a wealthy family... do all good things you can to ensure a wealthy family comes from you . End
I'm posting here as catharsis: People are arguing from the most economically vibrant cities in Nigeria, on an Internet unavailable to millions, using information technology unknown to the majority of your fellow citizens. They have that privilege but they want your own.
Let's push both points to the extreme: 1. Privilege is an unfair advantage that can never be overcome. 2. Diligence or agency will overcome privilege. What to do? I'll take 2. Why? Because even if 2 is wrong, there's a probability of success. #1 guarantees none.
On privilege leading to success. It is reductive to allude that people got successful because of privilege. For every successful privileged person, there are thousands of unsuccessful but privileged people. So many people get that startup loan and access and still fail in…
Some people's fathers or mothers made this decision decades ago. Did it. And you're seeing the outcomes. You can resent those outcomes as "privilege" or you can make this decision too for your kids.
Ever since I heard the founder of Chipotle share how his father loaned him about $100k to start business, I just told myself I need to put myself in a position to one day be able to loan my son $250k to kickstart his own dream.
4 years and 2 kids later, I will be returning to finish watching the final seasons of the greatest show ever made: Better Call Saul.
hey @grok, make a list of the 10 accounts i interact with most on here
There is a pragmatic benefit to avoiding envy. As a whole, we’re the richest humanity has ever been. Rich enough that the lower class today enjoys more comfort than the kings of old. But we must have what the rich has. So we can’t enjoy what we have, when we get it.
When we finished Uni, some people went straight to LSE, HULT, INSEAD, MIT or Warwick for Masters. When they finished, they proceeded straight to a Fortune 500 company for Internship and then straight back to Nigeria to become VP in daddy’s company You can’t outgrind that. Sorry!
Ask yourself: "What would I do if i knew I couldn't fail?" Then go and do it. That's agency.
I'm seeing the idea that every successful person is due to privilege. If you like, buy into that. Cynicism shows up in many ways, and I will always advocate you do not give in to it. A nobody with agency can accomplish a whole lot. Too many examples.
