"I think what we're finding is that the presence of those ballot initiatives actually gave some subset of women voters a permission structure that allowed them to go into the ballot booth and vote their interests on securing abortion rights and then pivot..." - @ProfMMurray
Want an example of a broken system? Florida DIDN’T “reject” the proposal to include a right to abortion in the constitution — they voted 58.2% in favor of abortion rights. But it needed 60% to pass, so it failed WITH A MAJORITY. Can’t imagine what Florida women must be thinking.
No matter where you are, stay in line. Your vote matters.
Russia calling in bomb threats to polling places in liberal districts across the country should be bigger news right now. They’re interfering for Trump right in the open, right in front of our faces
Worth repeating: The Florida amendment is sitting at 57% approval, which is enough to pass in any other state. It only failed because of the threshold.
Florida’s abortion rights ballot measure, Amendment 4, will NOT pass, @DecisionDeskHQ projects. It needed 60% to pass. Abortion in FL will remain banned after 6 weeks.
Jonathan Groff, famous Glee actor, grew up in Lancaster and has been making his way through the crowd, thanking students for their votes and taking pictures with almost every student waiting on line.
THIS! So glad these students are hanging in... but they shouldn't have to wait hours to vote. This is voter suppression.
My middle daughter, currently a freshman at Lehigh University, has been on line to vote for 6.5 hours and counting. She did meet Jonathan Groff, which was nice, but it sure smells like voter suppression to me.
A record voter turnout has turned into a celebrity hotspot during the 5+ hour wait to vote outside of the Banana Factory. Wanda Sykes, famous comedian and actress, also visited Lehigh students during the wait, and offered her gratitude and photo-ops for nearly every student.
it’s 8:30, and polls closed 30min ago. But ALL THESE STUDENTS in the Lehigh valley were in line before 8pm and have the RIGHT TO VOTE it’s incredibly inspiring to see so many young people out to vote!! if you are in line, STAY IN LINE
A. So, the Edison National Exit Polls have been released, and among Black voters, there's stasis. Harris is currently at 87% & Trump at 12%, same as in 2020. When we look at race*gender, Black men moved 1 pt toward Trump, and Black women 2 pts toward Harris. #electionday2024
"Judge not, that ye be not judged." Matthew 7:1. Also, "shush yuh mout, 'for duppy come snatch yuh up." My Jamaican grandmother.
Did not put on mascara today, because either way, I will be sobbing.
Paul Rudd showing up at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to bring students water while they were getting ready to vote made me so happy! He's a national treasure!
I just voted (4:00pm Eastern time). Stay in line if you have to!
