Mpox can be transmitted through intimate contact. This may be sexual in nature, but need not be. Many children have been infected from normal affectionate contact (cuddles) and some adults from exposure to skin flakes shed from severely affected people. Mpox is not a classic STI
I've been saying this since 2022: it's wrong to imply all mpox is an STI & doing so can be harmful. Clinical manifestations can relate to a transmission route/exposure-type, but routes of transmission/exposure & patterns of clinical disease differ between populations & outbreaks.
