Met two voters today in Sheffield’s council district who say they’re voting for Jenkins. One felt like she had a better chance of improving schools, the other liked Jenkins’ work with nonprofits and her temperament/willingness to take uncomfortable questions.

the algorithm really wants me to see this shallow loser gleefully call for destroying the U.S. Constitution as if it's a valid take I should consider

🚩🚩🚩Affordable housing is out of reach for a big chunk of the city. Basically 2 out of 5 households are cost-burdened. 1 in 5 households are spending more than half of their paycheck on housing
Recent city needs assessment shows 38% of Detroit households are spending more than 30% of their income on housing costs -- meaning they're in unaffordable housing. That represents 103,670 out of 270,445 households and most are Black (86,245 total or 83%).
City report shows there are 87,699 vacant housing units in the city, which accounts for a quarter of the entire housing stock. "Detroit has enough housing units to serve its residents, but a problem lies in not having enough decent, safe, and affordable housing for residents."

Hodari Brown sent a long response to our recent reporting about Rev. Kinloch's stance on LGBTQ marriage. Here's the argument for Kinloch's church leadership being an asset, something I've heard voters question.

Mayoral hopeful Saunteel Jenkins highlights support for improving public transit in campaign fundraising pitch

There's a youth block club on the eastside where kids are learning how to solve local problems. They went to Duggan's charter mandated meeting to advocate for getting sidewalks fixed so they can ride their bikes safely, the city promptly resolved it. facebook.com/JRBlockClub/
Older man in my neighborhood coffee shop is undecided in mayoral race, been disappointed too many times by politicians to put his faith in candidates. He's involved in church activism but is hesitant to support Rev. Kinloch. "It's complicated. I'm skeptical about all of them."
