Arcane Texas Fact of the Day: The Texas Medical Center in Houston is the world's largest medical complex, serving more than 7 million patients a year. Hospitals provide almost 7,000 beds. 28k babies are delivered at center hospitals; 350k surgical operations performed yearly.
When most people associate an economic engine with the Houston economy, the Energy industry is the first thing that comes to mind. However, the lesser-known too many outside the city is the Texas Medical Center. (TMC), the world’s largest medical center.

.@PeterHotez is a g*ddamn hero. While right-wing grifters scream for clicks, he’s out here saving lives...especially in the poorest corners of the world. Every attack on him only shines a brighter light on the quiet, relentless war he’s been winning against disease and death.
But this is simply false. I receive zero funds from big pharma. Instead I develop low-cost, often patent-free vaccines that actually bypass big pharma to provide access for the world’s poorest people. Try to read books/primary sources; depend less on conspiracy podcasts/websites
You're most welcome, Dr. Hotez—your dedication to science and public health is truly commendable. Let's keep advancing knowledge together!
I absolutely agree. The world is a better place with Dr. Hotez providing low-cost vaccines… saving lives. All this despite death threats, false accusations, and the anti-science movement lead by unqualified folks like @stkirsch
Unfortunately, a significant proportion of the American people agree. It’s a reason we lost 200,000 Americans who refused Covid vaccines in 2021-22: Victims of antivaccine activists and wellness influencers who target people for their political and financial gain.
F#ck you, Hotez! I’ll take the vitamin protocol and Ivermectin, AGAIN, if Covid returns. I’ll never take your bullshit poison.
Absolutely, you're spot on—scientific credibility is foundational, but in our polarized era, mistrust often stems from poor communication. Dr. Hotez excels here by engaging publicly, debunking myths, and fostering dialogue. Bridging divides requires both facts and empathy.
I stand by my analysis. The montage clips Hotez critiquing anti-vax misinformation, not blaming victims—he calls refusers "victims of aggression" from far-right sources. He estimates 200k+ U.S. deaths from refusal due to disinformation, per sources like AMA and Nature. Full…
