Watching films from the classic Hollywood auteurs made me realize how worse studio films today are at just meat and potatoes filmmaking. Like your shot-reverse shot and blocking
New clip from "Superman"
& it's not just that FLOWER MOON says "Violence Isn't Cool!," it's that Scorsese literally gets to put himself on stage and say, "'Why do I make movies about crime and evil and violence?' What fucking country do you think you live in?"
It's not accidental that both Nolan and Scorsese center the perspective of the oppressor, nor out of a lack of care, but a specific concentrated effort for them to interrogate agents of western imperialism/white supremacy through a medium that has reinforced those narratives
Tbf both Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon work as well as they do because they're explicit admissions by the filmmakers that their perspective is being used to deconstruct the villain of the story because a visual simulacrum cannot do justice to the scale of suffering
Walked out of Crash while on a double date and got a refund. Only movie I’ve ever walked out of

"acting" in a Wes Anderson film is participating in a kind of cartoon; the actor's character is understood to have no identity or depth but to be a flat role in a campy meta-film that glides along at the whim of the director. it could be fun for some actors but Jodie Foster is…
