I was 21 years old and preparing for NYSC when Buhari became president. I will be 29 when he leaves next year. I am just realizing that I've spent my 20s in bondage. Many of us became full adults under this man and all we have are tears of frustration, destruction, and death.
@Otosirieze is the man i look up to during his secondary school days in Matar.... My boss ejima dey greet o
My copy of @ChimamandaReal’s new novel, “Dream Count” arrived my house in Enugwu yesterday, courtesy of @Otosirieze and @OpenCountryMag. Now, let’s read and review. Thank you!

"Politicking and ideological clashes take centre stage in Edward Berger’s papal succession drama Conclave... But it is in the arc of its African cardinal that the film sets a damaging narrative." - @Otosirieze opencountrymag.com/in-conclave-a-…
I read the Cardinal Arinze profile because of Conclave and can’t lie, the African narrative in the movie started to feel uncomfortable.
I don’t always write essays at @OpenCountryMag but I’d been thinking of this one for months. As drama, “Conclave” @conclavethefilm is beautiful. But as polemic, it is a dangerous narrative of African Catholicism. opencountrymag.com/in-conclave-a-…

Ok this made me consider this character so differently! It is really interesting that they would choose to put a historically/in the media, european issue (not saying it doesn’t exists in Africa please!) on the 1 black character.

Theatre has not been gracious to Africa and the portrayal of Adeyemi paints this picture vividly but in bad faith—irresponsibility, incompetence, unworthiness, etc. The ‘smoke has cleared’ and it is clear that producers think it is convenient to paint Africa in this manner.

Even though I thoroughly loved Conclave, this was actually a great read that raises important questions.

I don’t really about Catholicism but I enjoyed this read. You raise some valid points and I’m curious to see the actual film now. Well done.
