Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) is a native shrub that makes a perfect addition to your Wild Back Yard! It can tolerate full and partial sun and is even drought resistant. Flowers bloom all summer long and are often visited by our most beloved pollinators.

Thanks to Captain Al and the rest of the crew that took me out for my first fishing trip on Lake Erie!
Caught this beauty on my last cast during Fish Ohio!
Governor’s Fish Ohio Day…one of my favorite days of the year! I only caught two fish before the rain sent us back to the dock. One was a yellow perch, and it was a keeper. 🎣 Thanks to Andy (ODNR chief of communications) for the photos. I’m working on my column about the day…
It’s #WorldSnakeDay! If you’re lucky enough to see one while hiking or biking, give them a little wave. Please don’t touch the "sneks." And be cautious to avoid them when they’re lying on warm trails — we don’t want to interrupt their sunbathing.
It's a great day to be out on Lake Erie for the 45th annual Governor's Fish Ohio Day! #FishOhio @ohiodnr @OhioDivWildlife
Look at this bee. It's absolutely loaded! Bees eat nectar and pollen and help pollinate plants by carrying pollen from flower to flower. Got bees? We'd love to see 'em! 📷 Mike Budd/USFWS
can't wait, bestie! 😍
Just one week until the @OhioStateFair! 🎉 The kayak pond is BACK 🛶—open to those 50 inches or taller and perfect for first timers. Come find us at Natural Resources Park and try it out! @ohiodnr @OHHeartofitall
🦋 Eat your leafy greens! 🍽️ 🤩 A monarch caterpillar rapidly progresses through five instars, or stages of growth. It won’t be long before this one enters the chrysalis for the metamorphosis into a monarch butterfly!

It's important to make a summer safety plan before heading out. This plan is especially important for anyone recreating on water. ODNR has 32 lifejacket loaner stations at many state parks that provide free access to life jackets in a variety of sizes.
Some folks call it a marsh hawk. Others call it “Gray Ghost,” especially the ghostly-looking males like this one. Northern harriers are hawks, but they fly like owls, low and slow over the ground, with V-shaped wings and a face disk that helps them hear prey. 📸Rohan Khera/STE
It's Christmas in July! 🎄 Don't forget to buy one of our limited edition Ohio State Fair ornaments at the gift store in the Natural Resources Park during the fair (July 23 - August 3)! It features a kayaker and is a great reminder of the good times had at the @OhioStateFair 🛶
