Alberta's AISH pays slightly more than other provinces, in a country where every disability program leaves pwd below the poverty line. Bragging about being the best of the worst is not a mark of excellence; it’s a distraction #ABpoli #DisabilityRights calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…

The word “poverty” and any plans to “protect Ontario” from tariff-related uncertainty are conspicuously absent from Ontario govt’s 2025 budget. This is bad news for the increasing number of Ontarians who live in #poverty. We need a real strategy #ONpoli policyalternatives.ca/news-research/…
There have been a lot of laws passed in the last session of the Ontario Legislature. Lets come together and learn how these laws impact disabled communities and all of us! 1/2
“Nevertheless, municipal governments – just like all other orders of government – have obligations to respect, protect, and fulfill human rights and to adopt a human rights based approach to encampments.” —@HousingLogement Advocate Marie-Josée Houle

Emergency infrastructure like shelters shouldn"t be delayed while we continue to exist in a housing and homelessness crisis. I'm glad that Council agrees: homeless people are constituents, and the provision of safe, decent shelter isn't political, and it must be prioritized.
And the shelter item as amended CARRIES 22-3. All six sites will go forward.
At DJNO, we try to keep track of when disabled and other marginalized unhoused folks are being pushed out of social and wider services to appease the housed owning class. In a 7-6 decision, Thunder Bay City Council has now done just that. 1/5

Really? You keep #ODSP rates low and when my #autistic son earns more than $1,000/month you subject him to a 75% clawback rate! He's 29 and still sitting on a waiting list for a group home because you don't build enough housing. That means he still lives at home. 🤬
When a 91-year-old renter in Toronto is evicted with nowhere else to go, our governments have failed completely. Many of us believe that we treat our elders with the respect and care they deserve in Canada. Tell that to Isidoro Ventullo. #StarEditorial trib.al/nOHsbHa
