Steve Williams - Proud Lancastrian, Historian, Author, Speaker (@SteveWtalks) and Photographer; likes WW1, railways and football.
Grundy Hill the home of #Horwich RMI #Football Club nr. #Bolton, 1960s. I refereed there on 14.8.1982 in their first game on the new North West Counties League @nwcfl. Will add it to my new talk for 2026, '#Lancashire Football Grounds, then & now'. @SteveWtalks @HorwichGossip

A British #Railways WD/8 'Austerity' Class loco 90655 heads west through Pleasington nr. #Blackburn, date unknown. Built in 1943 during #WW2 ('WD' stood for War Department), the engine was withdrawn in April 1967. #Lancashire @railnigel

Members of the @accringtonpals photographed on 27.10.1914 at Moorhead Park in #Accrington, then the home of Accrington Stanley #Football Club. #WW1 @ASFCofficial @AmazingAccy @officalassc1 #Lancashire

Footballer William Williams died in 1926 and is buried in Holy Trinity Church at #Hoghton nr. #Chorley #Lancashire. Wounded on the Somme and in Mesopotamia during #WW1, he played for #Blackburn @Rovers Reserves, @DarwenFC, @Everton #Football Club and @BlackpoolFC after the War.

Thomas Moulding (centre) played for #Blackburn @Rovers Reserves in 1914 before serving in #WW1. He elected not to play for the local Amateur League team on Good Friday 1914 for religious reasons (like in the film 'Chariots of Fire'). @brfcsdotcom @ReadRovers @BlackburnLife

Found another #Blackburn @Rovers player killed in service of his country - the 15th. Local man John Wolstenholme died of wounds in 1917 and is the only one to be buried in the town. @RoversTrust @brfcsdotcom @readrovers @LatestRovers @KidderStNoise @Ewoodparkfinest @RoversXtra

Footballer Gordon Lee, managed both #Blackburn @Rovers (1974-75) and #Preston North End (1981-83); pictured in @astonvilla colours sometime between 1955 and 1966 (ironically at Ewood Park, Blackburn). @RoversTrust @brfcsdotcom @LatestRovers @readrovers @Ewoodparkfinest #Football

Caught the #sunrise just after 5 o’clock this Tuesday morning, looking from rural #Chorley towards #Blackburn; two hours later it is raining. #Lancashire @cprelancs @InChorley

Happy to help @railnigel with a 1950s photograph of #Hoghton Station nr. #Chorley, on the line from Preston to Blackburn in #Lancashire. Date is believed to be c1954; the station closed in September 1960, pre-Beeching. #Railways @InChorley

Still finding footballers who played for #Blackburn @Rovers and served in uniform - Billy Lee only played once in the first team before serving in #WW2; he joined @BarrowAFC in 1947. A Blackburn lad, his Uncle played in the Rovers Reserve team after #WW1. @brfcsdotcom @readrovers

A much changed railway station today (certainly from the outside) - #Bolton Trinity Street station, 1960. Remember back then travelling with my Mother from Blackburn to visit my Gt. Aunt in the town. #Lancashire #Railways @railnigel

Goalkeeper Ron Sewell of #Blackburn @Rovers with his England Cap, 1924. Won an FA Cup Winners medal with #Burnley in 1914. Missed out on another Winners medal with the Rovers in 1928 by returning to #Gainsborough Trinity a year earlier. @GainsTrinityFC @TurfMoorLoyal @brfcsdotcom

Just one of a number of #sunset pictures I took whilst at Chania on Crete🇬🇷last month; not a bad result with an iPhone. #sunsets

Enjoying researching 'Rovers in Uniform' this afternoon. Picture posted earlier identified as @Everton FC with the Liverpool Senior Cup in 1922-23. @Liverpool_CFA @EvertonHistory @EvertonHeritage #Football #EvertonFC #Liverpool

Was in Crete 🇬🇷 last month and paid my respects at the @CWGC Commonweaith #WW2 cemetery at Suda Bay and at the German cemetery at Meleme; the latter overlooking the airfield that German Paratroopers took in a fierce battle on the 20th May 1941.

Can anyone confirm this is #EvertonFC? William Williams (no relation) seated second right, @Everton signed him from @DarwenFC in 1922 and played until 1925; also played for #Blackburn @Rovers Reserves 1919 and @BlackpoolFC in 1926. @EvertonHeritage @EvertonHistory @brfcsdotcom

I have decided to step down from the #Blackburn @RoversTrust Board after two years, for personal reasons. I have also left the Official @Rovers 150 Anniversary Group. I will however continue with my 'Rovers in Uniform' project and book. @brfcsdotcom @proudrovers @oneroverssas
