Did you know, the lapwing's Latin name, Vanellus, means 'little fan' and refers to its floppy, flapping flight 🪶 With its iridescent plumage and unique crested head, the lapwing is as striking on the ground as it is in the air ✈️ Adam Spruce 📸

We interrupt your Saturday to show you a ✨dotteral✨ This one is a juvenile but adults have beautiful chestnut-coloured bellies 🧡 They migrate to the Scotland in early summer to breed but stop off for a snack break in groups or 'trips' in eastern England. Gary White 📸

There were also quite a few clips of cows licking the camera 🙄🐮 These trailcams were set up by Norwich and Norfolk Naturalists’ Society to help us continue monitoring the unique ecosystem and wildlife at Sweet Briar Marshes!
Misssunderstood? Definitely 👎 Esssential? Absolutely ✅ Snakes control rodent populations & help maintain ecological balance. We promise they're not out to get us, they just want to be left alone (same, honestly). Let's show them a little appreciation this #WorldSnakeDay! 🐍

A butterfly with built-in side-eye 👁️👄👁️ Male purple emperors flash their wings and gather in ‘master trees’ up to 1 km from feeding spots where they can intercept passing females. They defend their territory by chasing off intruders—even birds! Henry Page 📸

One of our lovely followers, Sharon, sent us this photo of a washed-up compass jellyfish with its poor dinner still trapped inside! 🐟 They give a nasty sting, so if you spot them during a visit to the beach – look, but don’t touch! 🪼⚡
