"This is about long-term African data ownership", @UCT_news Nicky Mulder told me this week, speaking about Africa's new bioinformatics institute. "Bioinformatics infrastructure is as essential as a lab. But it’s often invisible or taken for granted." researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-africa…
We are working on establishing the processes for @AfrBioInstitute group leader/site applications and will host another information session in the coming weeks. If you wish to join the mailing list please complete the survey: redcap.h3abionet.org/redcap/surveys…
A major milestone in African science was recently marked by the launch of the African Bioinformatics Institute (ABI), aimed at supporting and growing the field of bioinformatics. Read more: qr.link/dE9Jrc
The @AfrBioInstitute (ABI) poster is being presented at the ELIXIR All Hands meeting in Greece. @GA4GH staff are also attending. ABI has similar goals to ELIXIR in terms of setting up a bioinformatics infrastructure across multiple countries.

I am excited to join the GA4GH leadership and help steer this organization that develops important standards and tools for human genomics.
