Before, we occasionally found a melanoma after surgery, having missed it in the initial diagnosis. Now we can detect 75% of these missed cases before surgery thanks to the confocal microscope, Yannick Elshot discovered. He successfully defended his thesis on March 21 🎓

🎓 Less stress: young women who had cervical cancer need fewer screenings after two negative HPV tests, PhD candidate Teska Schuurman discovered. She successfully defended her thesis on March 24.

As many as one in five cancer patients has to deal with a rare tumor. Rare cancers are more difficult to treat because less research is done on them. A new multidisciplinary RADAR study, led by Wilbert Zwart at the NKI, zooms in on rare cancers. Read more: bit.ly/3Fbdq9A

In a new study published in @NatureComms, researchers from the NKI developed an AI model called Multi-Modal Response Prediction (MRP). This model can help physicians predict how breast cancer patients will respond to neoadjuvant therapy. More ➡️ bit.ly/3Eq0D2J
