In our collection is the diary of an unknown soldier who recorded his experiences after landing on Gold Beach near Asnelles-sur-Mer. He was likely a medic from No. 10 Beach group. #NIWM #DDay




OTD 1944 Ted Sweeney sent the second fateful weather readings from Blacksod lighthouse, Co Mayo. Rising air pressure indicated a short window of improved weather. Armed with this new data, Gen. Eisenhower decided to launch D-Day on 6 June with three words, ‘OK, we’ll go'. #NIWM



#OTD in 1944, Maureen Flavin (21) sent a weather report from Blacksod Lighthouse, Co. Mayo, showing falling pressure and strong winds. It led Eisenhower’s chief meteorologist to advise postponing D-Day to 6 June—a decision that helped change the course of WWII. #DDay #NIWM
