"We have screwed up college sports for 1%... 1% of players who probably make all the money, but we're going to end up screwing up the 99% who actually need college (sports) to get a free education..." β Charles Barkley
My thoughts on why young men who are old enough to serve their country in the military, sign a lease, and finance a car should honor NIL contracts instead of keeping the money they were paid for services never performed. @ArkBusiness #NIL
University of Minnesota students shouldn't have to pay even more fees (Opinion by @PB_News Editorial Board) "Essentially, the U is forcing students...to pay the wages of student athletes who already are getting a free education" postbulletin.com/opinion/editorβ¦

During an appearance on SIU president Dr. Dan Mahony's podcast, AD Tim Leonard addressed how the NCAA's House revenue-sharing settlement is severely impacting mid-major institutions: "The pressure that it's putting on universities and athletics departments is just insane..."
One would be hard-pressed to disagree with Western Michigan University AD Dan Bartholomae's assessment that the school is now a "destination" G5 athletics program: wmubroncos.com/news/2025/7/28β¦

Isn't Twitter great? These are two of the more visible attorneys in the NCAA landscape battling it out this morning over who merits the label "Twitter lawyer" π

NCAA colleges and universities face a perfect storm of financial challenges, including the enrollment cliff, reduced federal funding, vulnerable revenue streams, and the recent House settlement (by @TempleLaw Professor Ken Jacobsen in @BLaw) news.bloomberglaw.com/ip-law/ncaa-stβ¦

You won't find a bigger supporter of NCAA college sports, nor will you find an individual ever persuaded that it's fair for regular students to bear increasing financial burdens to pay the wages of certain college athletes, no matter how enduring or widespread the practice may be
The #TitleIX lawsuit brought by Stephen F. Austin State athletes challenging the elimination of their Olympic sports programs has taken a new turn with the invocation of the President's "Saving College Sports" order (from @DanielLibit of @Sportico) sportico.com/leagues/collegβ¦

Should @NCAA President Charlie Baker achieve congressional approval for an antitrust exemptionβa feat many, including this acct, anticipateβadded with his introduction of NIL and revenue-sharing would undeniably establish him as the most impactful figure the NCAA has ever seen...
And, again... If I'm a hardworking Georgia Southern University undergrad, I'd be quite uneasy: GS AD Chris Davis was asked by @Joey_B_Lamar of @WSAV if he would look to increase student fees to help fund their choosing to opt-in to NCAA revenue sharing. Quite the winding answer:
Yeah, here we go again... If I'm an Illinois State University coach of an Olympic sport, I'd be quite uneasy: ISU AD Jeri Begg told @Pg_Reinhardt of @Pantagraph that the school could eliminate sports due to the apparent costs of the House NCAA settlement pantagraph.com/sports/collegeβ¦

Congress ππππ eventually intervene and correct this NCAA House settlement mess... Let's just hope it's prior to Olympic sports programs getting downgraded or even axed. This dude knows what he's doing
So, Iowa State Athletics is reportedly facing a $25 million yearly deficit thru 2031. They're postponing both a $25 million upgrade to its Basketball arena and a $20 million build of a new Wrestling facility. So, unrelated... ISU will be paying a few of its athletes $20 million!

1 year ago OTD, NCAA President Charlie Baker on the pending House revenue-sharing settlement: "If Congress does not act, the progress reached through the settlement could be significantly mitigated by state laws and continued litigation"

American Conference Commissioner Tim Pernetti this morning on NCAA athlete revenue-sharing: "I do know that we must avoid the lazy branding that if youβre paid, youβre a professional."
It's encouraging to see the adults in the room taking the reins in NCAA college athletics administration. The idea of 17-year-old freshmen being equipped to effectively engage in collective bargaining for multi-million dollar university programs is, frankly, unfathomable.
Over the past 30 days, 2 Olympic sports programs were eliminated and 4 programs were downgraded at NCAA institutions. Over the past 30 days, 24 Olympic sports programs have been added at 13 NCAA schools.
