#OTD in 1943, the transport ship HMT Rohna sank off the coast of Algeria after being hit by a Henschel Hs 293 radio-guided glide bomb. The Rohna went down with over 1,000 U.S. Army troops, making it the greatest loss of U.S. life at sea due to enemy action.
I have to keep a better eye on this today. This MIG just went ripping over on its way to EAA.

This is always a cool phenomenon on radar, gust fronts. It's essentially a downdraft. The cold air above collapses to the ground and spreads out. It shows up very distinctly below, bisected by the Mississippi River. Radar site is La Crosse, you get a great radar image so close.
Looks like the severe part of it has pretty much fizzled out as a whole, but we might have a bigger problem with flooding. Up to 3" an hour!! I live about 100-yards from the Wisconsin River. I'm in a 100 year flood plain.
Getting spicy quick, discrete cell out ahead of the main line with a tornado warning 25 miles from me. We'll see if the squall goes severe when it hits here.

This is bad, really bad. This tornado has been on the ground for well over 30 miles, over 45 minutes! It's sounding like Sauk City got hit, If it continues it will be going into a much more populated area Portage. My wife is from Montell, just north of there.
Things are getting sporty here. It's crazy how quick these went tornadic. The National Weather Service out of Lacrosse is top notch. These folks are working their tails off to give you these warnings so far ahead of time.
We are going in the wrong direction. It's bad out there.
