With the curriculum review and an acceptance that the GCSE science curriculum is too big what would you cull? For me I'd start by keeping all the topics but removing some of the facts which are easily searchable in the age of Google. Such as "digitalis comes from foxgloves".

I've seen teachers panic particularly in observations when during retrieval practice students get the answer wrong. The benefit of retrieval practice is from the testing effect of students accessing the information not from AFL. So don't panic, correct the mistake and move on.
