Junk food is all over. Labels dont tell upfront its sugar, fat or salt content 🧵👇 #PacketKeAndarKyaHai ⚠️ Obesity⚠️ Diabetes⚠️ Fatty liver rising. Let’s ask for ✅ Putting warning labels on front of food packets high in sugar, salt & fat 📝 Sign now: chng.it/wJBdnqcCRK

🚨The India-U.K. FTA could pose a Public Health Challenge for India. It will allow tariff-free entry. U.K.-made food products many of which would fit into the categorisation of High Fat, Sugar and Salt (HFSS), posing grave long-term health risks.Avoid FTA thehindu.com/opinion/lead/t…
@PMOIndia Your attention is drawn to @EconomicTimes view Tariff-free HFSS food under the UK FTA threatens years of progress on India’s fight against obesity We urge you to stand firm and 1. Enforce warning labels (FOPL), 2. Ban ads targeting children m.economictimes.com/opinion/et-com… 1/
We need to understand that CKD among youth is a big challenge. We must consistently work towards curbing it. Our population can be easily diverted towards consumption of foods that could pose a problem in the near future.
Therefore, India must act with some urgency. The PM has given a moral nudge. The apex court has given a legal one. The Economic Survey has offered the economic rationale. Technically, GoI's dietary guidelines support for two regulations. 5/
In the 1990s, Mexico signed Nafta with the US. Without safeguards, it led to an explosion of sugary drinks and processed foods, ushering in a wave of obesity and diabetes that haunts the country to this day. Mexican health experts call it their 'Nafta moment'. 4/
While Britain exports HFSS food products to India, it uses traffic light labels, restricts HFSS marketing, and will enforce a 9 PM TV and online ad ban from October. Going by the preamble of FTA India should come up with these two clear regulations 3/
Aggressive marketing of HFSS products is fuelling obesity. Between 2006 and 2019, the per-capita consumption of such products rose by nearly 50 times. 2/
The highway to divide. A public road turned into a toll-rich corridor, bypassing people, bulldozing nature. What an article, demolishing the myth of development that is being very cleverly used to usurp fertile agricultural land. Must read.
Congratulations GOI for CETA Here is work cut for you In coming days . Urgent. 1. Warning labels on HFSS food 2. Advertising bans on HFSS 🇬🇧 has these 2 protections 🇮🇳 does not @DrLahariya n myself write in @the_hindu @narendramodi @RemaNagarajan @virsanghvi @chetanecostani

Great to see this @SpringerNature #WBW2025 blog mentioning our paper “Economic and environmental impacts of commercial milk formula in Indonesia: estimates and comparisons using the Cost of Not Breastfeeding, Green Feeding, and Mothers’ Milk Tools”. communities.springernature.com/posts/world-br…
The India UK Free Trade Agreement is a major economic milestone. However, is it a poor deal from Public health viewpoint? why? Because, the entry of cheaper junk food as a result of a free trade agreement can prove to be expensive in terms of public health What should be done…
Mexico’s NAFTA moment, when liberal trade flooded the market with sugary products and led to an obesity and diabetes epidemic. India cant afford it at this time when obesity and diabetes rise rapidly and no where on track to halt them.
Good luck !! High Sugar food products will flood India's market being tarrif free in this FTA. UK has protection such as Traffic Light Labelling and advertising restricts. India does not. Legal Language must protect @virsanghvi @RemaNagarajan @sayantanbera @etimes @htTweets
