The first four replica parliamentary maces have been dispatched to new members for them to take out to their local schools. Thank you to @TomVenningGrey, David Batt MP, David Moncrieff MP and @maryaldred for your commitment to improving civics education in your electorates.

Congratulations to Marion Scrymgour MP, the first Aboriginal person to Chair the House of Representatives Chamber as a Member of the Speaker’s Panel. An incredible honour for the Australian Parliament. @AboutTheHouse

After a big week, returning to sunny Brissy - I ran into these legends from Springfield Lakes State School at Canberra airport who were lucky enough to be in @ParlHouseCBR during the Opening of the 48th Parliament.

It was an honour to appoint new members of the Speaker’s Panel. It was important to me to ensure there was gender parity on the Speaker’s Panel this parliament. I know these Members will do a wonderful job overseeing Parliament and I thank them for taking on this responsibility.

To be elected Speaker for a second term is a profound honour – but to be elected unopposed is deeply humbling. I recognise the significance of that gesture, and I am grateful for the trust and goodwill shown from all sides of this chamber. It is not a privilege I take lightly.

Marking the Opening of the 48th Federal Parliament of Australia with an Ecumenical Service at the Wesley Uniting Church. 🕊️

Honoured to receive a copy the Vietnamese Bible from my friend Father Joseph Vu from Brisbane’s Vietnamese Catholic Community. I’ll proudly be using this Bible when I’m sworn in as a Member of the 48th Parliament next week.

🏏 Great to have Hugh and Tom from @qldcricket drop by this morning for a terrific conversation about how we can support grassroots cricket and grow the game across our local community clubs.
