Earlier this year, @MetroMayorSteve joined a CSJ roundtable to discuss how we can scale Housing First's success nationwide. The message was loud and clear: local leaders are ready to deliver - but we need national leadership to turn these successful pilots into national policy.
🚨NEW: Rough sleeping has doubled since Covid. But there is a solution. Together with @MetroMayorSteve and @AndyBurnhamGM, we are calling for Housing First to be rolled out nationwide following the success of regional pilots🤝 Our new report, No Place Like Home, explains why👇
⏰ Just in time! @MetroMayorSteve explains in under 30 seconds what our new rapid transit solution will mean for the Liverpool City Region.
🤔 Not sold on the name Man-Sheff-Leeds-Pool…but how about the "Northern Arc"? Lord O'Neill makes the case for investing in the North's railways. 🧵⬇️
🚄 "If you could put in an Elizabeth line for the North, you could have a single market for 9 million people - the same kind of thing as London." Lord O'Neill's vision for a northern economic powerhouse. 👇
One of the big benefits of bus franchising is exactly this: we'll have integrated, tap-and-go ticketing across all the whole network. The first phase of this will begin in St Helens next year, followed by Wirral, then across the whole city region by the end of 2027.
I'm concerned on how long it will take before buses are integrated into tap and go, the gliders are a diff story cause they will have new systems but stagecoach buses around the region don't yet accept a tap and go like arriva Either way excited to see the pilot is underway 😌
I'd love a tram system - I'd be the first to say yes to one. But there are financial, legislative, and planning hurdles that mean we can't just snap our fingers and make it happen. So, yes, it's an interim step. But one that will improve our region's transport much sooner.
Does spending money on Gliders now mean we won’t have funds later for trams or could they be an interim measure? Trams would be an infinitely better solution in the long run, with far more capacity. Gliders feel like a second-class option for our city.
