Distant relative of mine (cousin of some sort) was a state senator and ran for various positions in Massachusetts against a Kennedy - probably for the best he did not win, however, as he has some very dark skeletons in his closet.

There's an affliction that catches a segment of alternative history writers where, the more they learn about their chosen period, the more stodgy and convergent their storytelling becomes, to the point the story becomes wholly uninteresting. This is perhaps what happened to TNO.
