Age at onset of walking displays a SNP-heritability of 24%. The polygenic score predicts age at onset of walking (the relationship is not due to indirect effect) and is associated with increased brain volume. Higher PGS for age at onset of walking is associated with lower IQ.

This study shows that genes associated with human brain evolution are not equally expressed in all cortical areas, as they are more expressed in cortical areas related to higher-order cognitive processing.
