At the centre of this crusade lies the @Mediacareerngr, a cream of passionate media practitioners grooming the next generation of rounded story tellers.
A particularly impactful presentation was given by Mr. Lanre Idowu, EIC of Diamond Publication, who helped me comprehend the 2022 Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists. This code includes essential principles such as Editorial Policy and Independence, Accuracy and Fairness, etc
Another highlight was the presentation by Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, former Editor at the Punch, Director of News at TVC, and former Provost of the National Institute of Journalism, on "Understanding Media Law: Defamation."
His session clarified how the law serves as protection for journalists and emphasized the importance of avoiding libel in our work. He urged us to prioritize ethical practices, verify facts before publication, rely on credible sources.
Additionally, an address by the Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate, Nigeria reinforced my sense of purpose and capability as a journalist.
I would like to express my gratitude to @lotufodunrin and the entire team at the Media Career Development Network for this invaluable opportunity to connect with fellow journalists from various newsrooms across the country, as well as to the US Consulate General in Lagos.
