New venture launching fall 2025. Author of The Chaos Machine, an NPR and New Yorker best book of 2022.
Thrilled by this: NYT call my new book, The Chaos Machine, an "authoritative and devastating account of the impacts of social media." "Utterly convincing and should obliterate any doubts about the significance of algorithmic intervention in human affairs" nytimes.com/2022/09/01/boo…
Yet another seismic decision fundamentally reshaping our system of government issued on the shadow docket with not even a single word of explanation.
BREAKING: Supreme Court GRANTS Trump’s bid to fire Education Department employees while his administration pushes forward with plans to dismantle the agency amid a legal showdown with Democratic states Apparent 6-3 vote with liberals dissenting @CourthouseNews
And at the start of a Republican presidential term that has credibly and openly attempted to overturn elections
Looks like SCOTUS has defanged one of the main avenues both parties have used to challenge executive power. Biggest reordering of judicial power in decades. Hopefully this cuts down a bit on forum shopping
Buried in amendments to the Interior Dept. Gov funding bill, is a stipulation that the Kennedy Center Opera House must be renamed the 'First Lady Melania Trump Opera House' in order to receive federal funds. The Appropriations Committee adopted that amendment by a vote of 33-25.

Site of the former U.S. temporary "humanitarian pier" in Gaza at the end of the Netzarim Corridor appears to have become a waste dump that is regularly burning. No obvious sign of IDF presence in this July 1 @planet imagery:
Gaza burning dump fire and size increase coincides with last time Israeli IDF troops entered Gaza in 2025JUN03 as part of an ongoing ground offensive against Hamas, with operations in Rafah, Khan Younis, Gaza City, and the Netzarim Corridor. Near remaining #JLOTS earthen pier.
Millions of people were condemned to preventable deaths today
"Trump is at the top of his game right now," says our Capitol bureau chief and senior Washington columnist @rachaelmbade. Watch Bade break down his four biggest wins of the past two weeks and read her column about how he dominated Congress here 👇 ow.ly/XJWA50WkI3k
Hours after ICE became the highest federal law enforcement agency in America history (and likely in world history), the Supreme Court lifts the last obstacle to ICE deporting people to any random country around the world, even in conflict zones or where migrants are enslaved.
JUST IN: The Supreme Court agrees to pause a lower court order that had blocked the deportation of a group of migrants with criminal records to South Sudan, clearing the way for the men to be moved from a military base in Djibouti where they have been held for weeks.
I forget who it was who said that slashing USAID, dooming tens of millions to preventable deaths as a culture war exercise, was a practice run for doing the same thing at home, but they were spot on
Whether you agree with the ruling or not, one thing has become very clear over the past few decades and much more so the past 6 months: one branch of government is quickly accumulating power and the other two are forfeiting their own.
Truly astounding the Supreme Court found a way to greenlight Trump killing birthright citizenship while also radically weakening judicial checks on presidential power. They want a dictator and they’re going to get it.
Virtually every left-of-center personality agrees that the Zohran is win good but they're all still finding ways to snipe at each other over it. God forbid your little factions ever find mutual benefit in something instead of doing endless petty infighting, what could be worse.
Loving the love for Brad Lander. It’s updated me a bit on RCV. RCV could create more Brad Landers, more coalition builders. A counterweight to the extremely individualistic incentives of executive and single member district legislative elections Chad Lander

I can't think of a clearer signal that aging establishment Democrats are weighing down the party and should retire to make room for new blood immediately
just watched mississippi masala for the first time, proud of my mom
"we will bomb them the right way, unlike our predecessors, who bombed them the wrong way" longest running theme in american foreign policy
Vance: I empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements in the Middle East. I understand the concern, but the difference is that back then we had dumb presidents
If your take is "I oppose Trump's fascism but support him lawlessly bombing this other country" maybe pause and give that a think.
Of course it was. These are just buildings. You can’t bomb away a technological capability. All this does is convince Iran it needs the nuclear deterrent it’s always been capable of acquiring.
Iranian tv, as reported by AJArabic, says that the nuclear equipment had already been evacuated from all three facilities attacked by the US into safe places a while ago.
