🚨 Job adverts LIVE! 🚨 We want to understand how the brain supports abstract cognition in psychosis, using cutting-edge neuroscience. Non-Clinical RA: lnkd.in/eva-Zzfj Clinical RA: lnkd.in/eSgdad_F Postdoc: lnkd.in/eid8gtbR Oxford University Due June 23
❗RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES📷 We're hiring for an ambitious @wellcometrust project exploring brain mechanisms of planning/inference in psychosis 🧠 Multiple scales: from single neurons to human behaviour/fMRI and neural networks. 1 post-doc 1 clinical fellow 👀

My paper is out!! 🎉 "Opponent control of reinforcement by striatal dopamine and serotonin", @Nature Here, we show that dopamine and serotonin signals form a gas-brake system for reward in the mammalian brain 🧠 THREAD ⬇️ 1/n
It isn’t just general NHS issues. Its expanding bureaucracy,a lack of urgency in unis/NHS, & risk aversion causing delays of yrs. Problems haven’t grown from funding issues, but misplaced incentives where its ok if we never get started as long as the proformas completed correctly
The hidden cost of university administrative bloat isn't just financial—it's the talent drain. When systems impede rather than enable research, our brightest minds seek institutions where they can innovate. @paulg paulgraham.com/artistsship.ht…
Thanks to everyone for comments on my @Brain1878 editorial. There've been lots of questions on solutions. I'm afraid it's unlikely that any supreme body is going to come to our rescue. We have to do it ourselves. The problems came one by one. We can dismantle them one by one.
Why academia is sleepwalking into self-destruction. My editorial @Brain1878 If you agree with the sentiments please RT. It's important for all our sakes to stop the madness academic.oup.com/brain/issue/14…
Our symposium on structure knowledge biases in psychopathology was accepted at the Computational psychiatry Conference! @Matt_Nour @mona_garvert @caro_charp Talks span social learning, task inference in planning, language representation & map-based generalization. Cant wait!
I believe that if you understood intelligence, you could build it in software form on a $1M budget, including training. It would not need to be trained on the entire Internet, nor on the thought process of thousands of experts.
I’ll work closely with @Matt_Nour, @dr_rick_adams and @eckstein_maria to investigate Goal-world model impairments in psychosis in mice humans and neural nets supported by a @wellcometrust Mental Health Award
Delighted to share that I’ll be joining @OxExpPsy as a group leader/Faculty next spring. My group will investigate how our cells build models of the world and of our internal goals, and how this goes wrong in disorders like schizophrenia.

I’m excited to share our new, open-access paper published today in @NatMentHealth, “Latent mechanisms of language disorganization relate to specific dimensions of psychopathology”. nature.com/articles/s4422…
