In 1989, I spent an afternoon drinking Bloody Marys with Dick Allen at the Pump Room in Chicago. He talked about the abuse he endured as a minor leaguer in Arkansas, and his passion for the game. He told me he would quaff a Heineken or two in the clubhouse during games.
He was the best!
