There's so much speculation about what Canada's structural investigation into the Hamas-Israel war means. So to clarify things, I wrote a longer explainer. What we do & don’t know about the RCMP's Structural Investigation into the Israel-Hamas War: justiceinconflict.org/2025/07/15/sif… #Gaza

As a longtime humanitarian who has battled famines and hunger crises, I fear that starvation in Gaza has now passed the tipping point and we are going to see mass-scale starvation mortality. A thread on famine momentum, famine response, and what it means for Gaza today.

France announces it will recognize Palestine! To those who say this is a “reward for Hamas”, please stop confusing Palestinians & Hamas. It’s collective punishment that fuels atrocities. To states - hi, Canada - who have yet recognize to Palestine, yesterday was the right time!

Those with the power to end the starvation of Gaza but who choose not to use in & those who issue strong words in lieu of concrete action, should be prepared to accept that they are complicit in a famine they could help to end, but won’t. @MarkJCarney @AnitaAnandMP @BobRae48
Every world leader needs to ask themselves if they are ready to be complicit in a famine on their watch. If they are not, they must act decisively now, using every possible political and diplomatic tool, to pressure Israel to lift this unlawful and murderous blockade. /end
Deeply concerning part of Columbia's capitulation to Trump: Foreign students arrested at protests can now be detained by ICE regardless of whether university admin's punish them. Significant escalation of efforts to chill speech & protest activity by non-citizen students.
"Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, Israel as the occupying power has an obligation to provide unconditional and adequate supplies of essential good and services to the entire population under its control." "Israel is not fulfilling this obligation." 1/
Mass starvation is spreading in Gaza. Our colleagues and the people we serve are wasting away. It is time for governments to take decisive action and save lives: msf.org/mass-starvatio…
“Gaza’s health ministry recorded 10 deaths due to starvation in the previous 24 hours, which it said brought the number of hunger-related fatalities in July to 46 [and] the total number of deaths from malnutrition reported by the ministry to 111, at least 80 of them children.”

Once a famine gathers momentum, the effort required to contain it increases exponentially. It would now take an overwhelmingly large aid operation to reverse the coming wave of mortality, and it would take months. Gaza is entering its darkest chapter yet.
Columbia capitulates to Trump a day after suspending / expelling 70 students who protested against atrocities in Gaza👇 It’s not a stretch to believe the University has now put more of its students at risk of being disappeared and illegally detained by ICE & Trump’s thugs.

18 letters written by Israeli legal scholars to Israeli officials since 10/7/2023, warning of the illegality of Israel's conduct, have been published on Verfassungsblog. "As of today, none of the letters have received a substantive response."
Absolutely: "Depriving people of food is criminal ...famine is an act of policy or neglect." The intentionally starved people of Gaza, Sudan & Myanmar deserve more than statements. They deserve actions, not words. Their perpetrators deserve to be prosecuted not merely scolded.
An important article on famine and starvation from the Red Cross. This is a global reality we thought was behind us. From Gaza to Sudan to Myanmar, it is a tragic reality. Depriving people of food is criminal. Food shortages happen. Crop collapses happen. But famine is an act…
