I take book recommendations equally seriously from authors & non-authors (select individuals from either cohort taken more seriously). To join in on beating the dead horse, authors recommend other authors they know. I trust those only in private conversation.
#ReadingCommunity, how seriously do you take book recommendations from authors? What do authors tend to recommend to others that non-authors would not recommend?

Writing communities are really fragile. A low bar to entry plus a monumental skill floor multiplied by intense competition for very limited attention means lots of insecurity & desperation. Taking is tempting, & giving is expensive. Many friends are lost to despair, ego, or both.
#WritingCommunity, share your freshest, spiciest hot take about the dynamics of writing-focused communities.

Mutually earned respect is vital. Writers groups decay in the friction between perceptions of skill and success. While some authors are going to do better than others, a kind of poison resentment and condescension runs both ways when the gap among members grows too great.
#WritingCommunity, what are some indicators you generally recognize as markers of a healthy writing group or writers' network?
I get a lot of pushback critiquing the concepts "genre" and "trope". In the former case, genre labels serve their purpose (coherent categorization) badly, but people like the feeling of mastery sloppy language imparts. The latter adds no information (= "thing" or "pattern").
#WritingCommunity, tell me about the sorts of ideas that in your experience, writing spaces do not permit to be challenged, and why you think this is.
I see the luxury belief "Art should be done for its own sake," in writing spaces, which one can only believe if he has no greater purpose for his writing. A story written for its own sake has no function, so no one would want or understand it (but the author: self-indulgence).
#WritingCommunity, what are some of the more common luxury beliefs you encounter in writing spaces? Luxury beliefs are those that are held because expressing them gives social credit, not because the holder applies them to their own lives.
We bow before our practice bout, hand in fist like sun & crescent moon, like Vritra & Danu—like kin, though in truth, we are co-familiars, neither me nor the Wū Wū Kòu being human enough to anchor the attachment alone. Attachment, yet together we are freer than each on his own.

It is actually difficult to determine how "serious" an author is about his writing from the text itself. An author can be dedicated while also being blind and unskilled. However, if forced to answer, I'd say obvious failures to revise and edit or even proofread aloud.
#WritingCommunity, what are the indicators within a text that suggest to you that the writer isn't very serious about writing?
Ambushed by a foe unknown Wounded by dreadful scorn Embittered, I retreat alone To fulfill an oath I’ve sworn Through the night I tinker and toil Restless until the dawn Now I have the perfect foil Yet my foe is long gone

If an author critiques others' writing without having ever published / shared anything, I become suspicious. It isn't always the case, but a big chunk of people who do this are projecting their insecurities about their own work and savaging others for it.
#WritingCommunity, tell me about behavior that makes you regard a supposed writer as less than serious about actually writing.
Do I feel shame about my creation? What a ridiculous question! My Crown Cap elixir is mankind's salvation! No other tincture takes away life’s pains: bodily aches, heart breaks, and ruminations gone! So what if addicts become monsters? That’s their responsibility, not mine.

At the edge of the world, in the light of radioactive lighting storms raging above a bluff overhanging a boiling sea, Mint asked the enlightened non how the nature of the human mind diverged from non linguistic prediction computations. His reply terrified: “None.”
