It isn't remarked on enough, how just recklessly irresponsible it is to spend probably $1m all told that I'm sure the Diocese can't really afford, just to inconvenience one's ideological opponents. Will look great next time to Diocese is crying poor trying to stiff abuse victims

I get the sense that the new translation of the LotH will reveal the same thing as the new translation of the Order of Baptism - that the ritual itself, and not the translation, was the problem. But we have neither the courage nor the brainpower to overhaul it.
The four week psalter is the biggest practical difficulty for parish lauds/vespers. Not only because of the needless complexity, but also because it prevents printing short versions of the breviary in prayer books, missalettes, and hymnals.
