A distinct haze layer can be distinguished from clear skies above this morning. Many stations across New Hampshire are reporting unhealthy air quality due to smoke plumes from distant wildfires. Weather observers on Mount Washington can even smell a hint of smoke in the air.

Last night, we got to view the #NorthernLights. However, their peak intensity didn't last very long, transitioning from bright, moving pillars (first pic) to a dulling glow by the time we snapped the group shot by the summit sign, some 10 minutes later. #NHwx #NH #nightsky

Looking southeast from the summit this evening, North Conway, #NH, could be seen through a gap in the undercast, while further away, a line of #thunderstorms and associated #lightning lit up the sky. This is one minute of the observed lightning in real-time (i.e., not sped up).
Summit fog limited visibility this morning, so here is #sunrise from Saturday looking towards Mt Jefferson, Adams, and Madison. Sunday will see rain showers & thunderstorms, then Monday, ambient air temperatures fall towards freezing. Additional details: mountwashington.org/weather/higher…
