Congress doesn’t get many chances to build smarter guardrails for next-gen financial technologies. As @SKMersinger lays out, this is one of them.
This week, Congress faces an opportunity to modernize America's financial infrastructure for the digital age. My thoughts going into Crypto Week for @CoinDesk: coindesk.com/opinion/2025/0…
In theory we have a system where the government has the burden of proof, but more often than not, the defense gets stuck trying to prove a negative. This isn’t how the system should work. Especially when the consequences are someone’s literal liberty.
This is the problem when the DOJ decides to get creative with a legal theory on something like 18 USC 1960 - the DOJ shoots an arrow and then paints the target around it, trying to fill in shoddy evidence after the fact. The real tragedy is that the accused is always starting…
Update: This morning at trial, defense counsel asked the government's forensic analysis witness whether prosecutors asked him to trace these funds. Answer: *No* So to recap, the government seemingly skipped diligence & put up a witness with no link to Tornado Cash at all?!
This would be such a stunning lack of diligence that I *want* to give prosecutors the benefit of the doubt. But @tayvano_ compellingly argues that their *opening witness* in Roman Storm's case didn't actually lose funds to Tornado Cash. Government needs to explain ASAP.
35 pages only. Well this will be a fast analysis. I’ll just hit the highlights.
Today, @SenatorTimScott, @berniemoreno, @SenatorHagerty and I led our colleagues in releasing the discussion draft for market structure legislation that will serve as the foundation for making the U.S. the crypto capital of the world.
Very historic day today! Stablecoins have one of the more compelling use cases there is. Especially in an environment where having sovereignty over your assets is a crucial means to protect yourself. Now onwards we go to market structure!!
Yes. So many staff members worked in good faith, dove deep into the tech, thought hard about all of the (sometime competing) policy goals, and gave up mountains of sleep in order to craft the wildly bipartisan crypto bills voted on today. Gratitude to the lawmakers but very much…
A note of thanks to the dedicated staff who have labored for years on stablecoins and market structure. Drafting text, taking comments, and negotiating across the aisle. Tomorrow the President will sign GENIUS and in the coming weeks the senate will take up market structure. All…
1/ Today marks a historic day for America's economy and the digital asset ecosystem. I am honored to join the President for the signing ceremony of the GENIUS Act at the White House.
Thank you to @SenatorTimScott and the Senate Banking Committee for the opportunity to testify today. I am grateful for the substantive discussion. @blockchainassn stands ready to support our policymakers as they advance market structure legislation. @BankingGOP @SenateBanking
I'm honored to testify today before the Senate Banking Committee on the urgent need for market structure legislation. Proud to join fellow BA members @bgarlinghouse (@Ripple), @jony_levin (@chainalysis) & @danrobinson (@paradigm) in making the case for regulatory clarity.
1/ NEW: Last night, DEF, @paradigm, @btcpolicyorg, @BlockchainAssn, @crypto_council, @DigitalChamber, @SolanaInstitute, & @UniswapFND, filed an amicus brief in @LewellenMichael’s case against the DOJ in support of Lewellen’s opposition to the DOJ’s motion to dismiss. Let’s dive…
