Dear Twitter, if you were looking for a book or articles to get a biology graduate student some background in physics (mostly as it is relevant for evolution and ecology) what would you recommend?
In case you are not yet on the other side and want to check out our work on plant domestication and microbiomes: bsky.app/profile/mrebol…
My co-PI @StevenDAllison is looking for a postdoc to complete the modeling aspects of our @doescience funded research predicting how microbes contribute to nitrogen cycling changes after fires! Please apply! #AcademicTwitter #job recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09456
Thrilled to share this new preprint with @corlettwwood!! We studied how microbes evolve in the wild using classy common garden and population genetics 1/5 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Blaming voters and considering them bad or ignorant is what got us here in the first place. If you lost margins across most groups and regions, that is your fault. Time to listen to the feedback

🚨 Job Alert! 🚨 Join the UC Berkeley Physics Department! We’re hiring an Assistant Professor in soft condensed matter (broadly defined). Both experimentalists and theorists are encouraged to apply! aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF04653
This is amazing!!!
This story started 5y ago with my lab. Spearheaded by fearless 1st authors @theopi and Olivia Leland. Theopi is now a PhD student at @BrownUniversity. Olivia is a physics PhD student at @BrandeisU, a self-taught biologist, and made us love soft matter. A (very long) thread (1/24)

Behind the Paper is out! 🎉 In "Evolving solutions: breeding bacterial communities to battle pollution," we tell the story behind our recent artificial selection paper @NatureComms . Huge thanks to @saramitri , @owbjorn , Alice Haym and Geraldine Alberti communities.springernature.com/posts/evolving…
It has been fun to see this paper at different stages and finally out! Congrats to the authors @jandraRV and Zahraa

Ep21: While teaching, you may want to highlight specific lines of code output (or even highlight distinct lines over a progression of steps). W/ @quarto_pub, you can do this using the code-line-numbers attribute of code blocks, as shown below @ASNAmNat 🔗 youtube.com/@asnamnat9152/…

As for the frequency—there’s a train every 15 minutes, every day from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM No peak or off-peak hours. You just show up at the station, and within 15 minutes max, you’ll have a train! AS IT SHOULD BE! This is the only way to get people out of their cars 🚗
Great opportunity!!!

This is an incredible paper; if you care about fitness effects and epistasis, you cannot miss this one! If you know anything about @skryazhi you'll know this paper is careful, creative, and insightful! Sarah and @_miloj are also brilliant and incredibly nice! Congratulations!!!
It looks like I never posted anything (*but see below) on what are probably the most surprising results my lab obtained so far. Anyway, this work—led by an outstanding former PhD student Sarah Ardell in collaboration with @_miloj—is now published: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
